RICHARD A. JOSEPHER is a shareholder in the law firm of Gutter Chaves Josepher Rubin Forman Fleisher Miller P.A. in Boca Raton, Florida. He received B.A., J.D. and Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation degrees from the University of Florida. He is Florida Bar Board Certified in Federal Tax.
He practices in substantive and procedural areas of federal taxation, with a focus on federal tax controversies, including offshore tax compliance, complex civil tax examinations, significant tax collection matters, IRS appeals, tax refund claims, and related tax litigation in U.S. Tax Court and other federal courts. Mr. Josepher also advises as to the tax aspects concerning the formation, operation and sale of businesses, including corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies. Finally, he works with owners of such businesses and families in personal estate and business succession planning, and handles probate, estate and trust administration matters.
Mr. Josepher served as Chair of the Florida Bar Tax Section for 2002-2003, and was the 2009-2010 recipient of the Tax Section’s 2009-2010 Outstanding Tax Attorney Award. He is a former Adjunct Professor (partnership taxation) in the graduate tax program at the University Miami School of Law. He has written and lectured on various tax topics, is listed in the “The Best Lawyers in America”, “Super Lawyers” and “Chambers USA,” and has received the highest rating in Martindale-Hubbel. He is a founding member of the South Florida Tax Litigation Association. In 1997 and 1998 he led the Tax Section’s successful effort to adopt legislation in Florida which repealed the corporate income tax then imposed on limited liability companies. He has served on behalf of several South Florida charities over the years, including Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Ann Storck Center.
